10 Great Reasons to Add Lemon to Your Water
Looking for a Spring Cleanse?
Start by drinking lemon in your water to cleanse out toxins
Lemon is a natural energizer; it hydrates and oxygenates the body so it feels revitalized and refreshed!
Lemon water is amazing as it has so many health benefits. It boosts your immune system, balances PH, flushes out unwanted toxins, is excellent for weight loss, decreases wrinkles and blemishes plus cures throat infections. So if your wanting an overall spring cleanse, start by putting lemon in your water!
I personally drink about 1 litre of lemon water every day. I cut off a small quarter of the lemon and drop it in my water rather than squeezing a whole lemon. Its important that we don’t have too much lemon as it is quite acidic, which can impact on our teeth! However overall; the lemon water makes me feel more energized, I have clearer skin and it helps so much with my digestive system. I also love it because it makes me really hydrated and refreshed after I exercise!!! And lemon water helps with stress! As an Outdoor Personal Trainer, running my own business can be mentally and physically stressful at times. My body gets put under physical stress due to the amount of exercise I do; so lemon water certainly helps with keeping my body’s stress levels all under control. This all then stops my body from releasing the stress hormone “Cortisol” which makes our body hold onto fat in our abdominal region!
Here are 10 health benefits of lemon water:
- Fresh lemon water, especially first thing in the morning, can help relieve or prevent digestive problems like bloating, intestinal gas and heartburn and stimulate better digestion in general.
- Lemons are antiseptic & have a powerful cleansing effect on you liver, kidneys and blood.
- Lemon water in the morning is a great way to get a good portion of your daily vitamin C. They are also a good source of folate and minerals like potassium, calcium and magnesium.
- The high mineral content of lemons makes them alkalizing to the body, despite their citric acid.
- Lemon water assist in elimination and will help prevent either extreme of constipation or diarrhea; which is another important reason to have warm lemon water first thing in the morning.
- Drinking lemon water is even said to be good for improving your skin. It is high in vitamin C; however the overall cleansing, antibiotic and antioxidant effects are the most beneficial.
- Lemon water helps your liver to produce more bile to aid in the digestion of fats. This is very important if you have a big event planned and you know you will be drinking quite alot of alcohol or eating alot of fatty foods. Aim for 1 liter of lemon water per day if you want to break down fat or aid in the digestion of fats.
- The antibacterial properties of lemon can help in curing a throat infection. If you have a sore throat you could make a warm lemon drink with manuka honey to sip every couple of hours.
- Lemon water is also thought to decrease the amount of mucus and phlegm produced in the body. If you’re drinking full creme cow’s milk often (a big cause of mucus) then lemon water each morning may help to lessen mucus levels in your body.
- Many weight loss resources cite the benefits of lemon water and it’s citric acid in fat burning. However you will still need to avoid fatty foods & exercise; but lemon water is certainly a beneficial addition to any body fat reduction plan.
