Vie Activist: Meet Cherida Forde

Posted on July 07, 2014 by Cal Wilson

We are excited to introduce our newest Vie Activist, Cherida Forde. Cherida is the owner of YP Active and a pure representation of how to life an active life. We chatted to her, about everything from how she lives an active life to her dream fitness vacation destination.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in a regional area of South Australia called Clare Valley. Sydney has only been my home since last year and prior to the that I lived in Perth for 5 years. I first got started in the health and fitness industry as a Personal Trainer, soon after I realised wanted something to compliment the PT so I looked to study either Yoga or Pilates. I then came across the Solomon Yogalates method which was the combination of both practices, so moved to Byron Bay and was trained by the master herself Louise Solomon.

How do you live an active life, what’s your favourite way to stay fit?
Balance and variation is the key for me so making sure I don't stick to the same fitness routine is key.  I have also studied nutrition so love cooking and preparing healthy meals.

Besides Yoga and Pilates, how do you like to stay fit?
I like to vary my training with weights at the gym, stair runs and doing the amazing Bronte to Bondi walk.

What is your ultimate fitness vacation?
Beachside location morning walk or run, healthy breakfast, beach, coffee, lunch, magazine, yoga pilates session, beach, dinner. Repeat.

What has been your biggest fitness motivation?
My biggest motivation is my health! I live an active life and eat clean/real food. For me a healthy lifestyle makes me feel better, look better and live better. As Jim Rohn says 'Take care of your body. Its the only place you have to live in.'

Why do you think it is important to incorporate Yoga/Pilates into your workout routine?
I could go on for hours about the benefits. In short Yoga enhances strength, stamina, flexibility, balance and mental clarity and Pilates stretches and strengthens all of the major muscle groups in the body paying attention to building tone in the deeper postural muscles (core muscles). So by bringing these two exercise systems together you have a series of poses designed to create all of the above benefits in one class.

What do you typically eat and what do you try to avoid?
Fresh fruit and veggies and lots of them! I love fish, so Atlantic salmon and barramundi feature regularly in my diet. I also include other sources of protein such as red meats and chicken into my meals while avoiding any fast food and foods with high sugar content. And I am addicted to raw desserts.....love them!

What is always in your gym bag?
Deodorant (without stating the obvious!) gym towel, new outfit to change into, Nuzest clean and lean protein shake for after my workout, lip gloss and my hairbrush.

What do you look for in Active Wear?
Breathable, functional, good quality, flattering and fashionable (lets be honest!).

What are your favourite Vie Active Pieces?
Life Water BottleTanya Dance ShortLori Black Leopard Sports Bra and the signature Noa Foundation Jacket!
