Green Juices and raw smoothies are clearly en vogue at the moment. When we don't have time to make our own, our favourite is local brand, Lucky You Cleanse. We went straight to the source to find out what the difference is nutritionally, between juicing and smoothies.
Juicing is a process of extracting water and nutrients from fruits and vegetables, allowing for the quick absorption of essential vitamins and minerals into our blood stream. It is a simple and effective way of consuming vast quantities of raw, fresh fruits and vegetables – 1.5 kilos of vegetables go into every 500ml jar of ORGANIC Lucky You Cleanse Green A!!
Drinking cold-pressed, organic juice is gentle on the digestive system, detoxifying to the liver and provides a FABULOUS pick me up – leaving you feeling clear, light and full of energy!
Smoothies are different to juices in that rather than extracting the water and nutrients, the produce is blended until it reaches a smooth consistency – keeping the fiber intact. Smoothies are a pre-digestive and have a thicker consistency, making them more filling and helping to sustain energy.
However it is impossible to include the same quantity of raw, fresh produce into the creation of smoothies – so fruit and vegetable serving sizes are lower than what you would get in a cold pressed juice.
There are MANY nutritional advantages to consuming cold-pressed juices and smoothies. There is no right or wrong answer to consuming one or the other. It is important to LISTEN to your body and feed your soul with high quality produce as well as clean, healthy choices.
