Mother's day is a time for your family to be together and what better way for fit mums and fit families to celebrate than getting active together! You'll burn calories, stay fit and create memories and fit rituals all at once. We can't see the downside in that.
10 active and healthy ways to spend mother's day

1. Have a smoothie party

If you have young kids (or even older kids), this one is always a winner. Create a make your own smoothie bar with bowls of fresh fruit, veggies and some superfoods. Everyone can take turns at blending their favourite ingredients together and making new creations. Then share them around. You might just find a new favourite smoothie.

2. Sign up for a Mother's day run

Run as a family in a family friendly run! There are always a few around such as the Mother's Day Classic and all money raised goes to a good cause. This is a Mother's day tradition we love! If there's not a race near you, why don't you create one. You can add an element of friendly competition. Like the winner gets to choose where to go for lunch.

3. Go for a bike ride

Go out for a family bike ride, it's a great way to explore with the kids or get some fresh air with your parents.

4. Go for a hike and picnic

This is one of our favourites. Pack a healthy picnic with homemade muesli bars, sandwiches, salad and other healthy treats (try a healthy trail mix) and go for a nice nature walk. It's a great way to bond and do something new.

5. Play soccer, cricket, touch football, Tennis etc.

There's nothing better than a bit of harmless family rivalry. Why not get your family for a game of soccer or cricket, maybe mums and dads v.s. kids or girls v.s. boys. You'll be active and get a laugh at the same time.

6. Head to the beach for a swim

Sand, surf, soft sand running. A day at the beach has all the ingredients for a fun and active day. Bring down some boogie boards and a beach ball for some active games while you're there.

7. Take a Yoga Class

Taking a yoga class and then going for a massage or manicure after is a really relaxing way to spend time with your mum on Mother's day. It is a great option for all fitness levels too.

8. Try out a new recipe together

Nothing is more fun than a bit of healthy recipe sharing together. We love something simple and fun that you can enjoy later in the day like these banana, date and walnut muffins as a tasty treat.

9. Get out on the water

Sailing, Kayaking, Surfing, Stand Up Paddle boarding. There is an option for every type of family. Getting out onto the water is a fun way to spend the day and a great way to try something new.

10. Go Rock climbing

This is a great one for a fun day out. There are rock climbing walls for all fitness levels and if you don't want to climb you can always belay.
