Meet the Vie Active Team

Posted on May 27, 2014 by Cal Wilson

In celebration of our first birthday we want to introduce to you the wonderful people that make the Vie Active team. We are a fun loving bunch and our common passion for health and fitness is what has brought us together into such a cohesive team. So without further ado let the introductions begin!

Noa Ries
Role:I am the co-founder of Vie Active and CEO responsible for our sales, marketing, design, incredible community and awesome team
1. How do you like to live an active life?
Given I survive on about 5 hours of sleep a night (thanks to two children who don't sleep well and a brain that never quietens) I could not function throughout the week if I did not live an active and healthy life.

2. What has Vie Active taught you about living an active life?
Being fit, strong and healthy gives me energy and makes me happy and confident.

3. What is your favourite Vie Active piece?
"My must-have and favourite Vie Active item is the Noa Foundation Jacket. As the name suggests, it's the foundation of the brand and where it all began. It's the ultimate mix of fashion and function and I am just as comfortable going for a run in it as I am wearing it to brunch with my friends or family afterwards."

4. Tell us one unknown fact about yourself
I competed in a half ironman in 2008 to raise money for Parkinson's Disease (my late father had this) and raised $43,000.

Bryan Ries
Role: Co-founder
1. How do you like to live an active life?
I love being outdoors and grew up skiing in the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Colorado. Not much skiiing Australia, so I spend my time mountain biking, trail running, surfing and ocean swimming.  I try to do several high intensity cardio / strength sessions a week to mix it up.

2. What has Vie Active taught you about living an active life?
I find that being active helps me focus and gives me insight.

3. What are you gym bag essentials?
A merino top and vegan protein shake for post work-out
4. What book is currently on your beside table?
The Renegade Collective (magazine) and my iPad (using Zinio for the latest surf mags)

1. How do you like to live an active life?
I have always been in my element when I'm outdoors and anywhere near the sun & sea. I am a member of Elixr and love going to their wide variety of classes - anything from yoga to spin. One of my favourite parts of the week are our Vie Active team workouts. It's such a fun way to break up the week and I love getting to experience new work outs as there are always so many new studios popping up around Sydney.

2. What has Vie Active taught you about living an active life?
Firstly I would say the importance of having a healthy work / life balance and that you should always make
time in the day to break a sweat. Most importantly though that there is no such thing as too much leopard when it comes to your work out gear!
3. What is your favourite Vie Active piece?
Love my merino tanks - they feel amazing to work out in and are so breathable that I can go straight from a workout to brekky & not feel yucky! The cute colours and styles don't hurt either, they are so versatile that you can wear them with compression tights or jeans.
4. What are your beauty must haves?
Rosehip oil and RMS Beauty (seriously amazing natural make up!)
5. Tell us one unknown fact about yourself
I make Kimberly Snyder's Glowing Green Smoothie every morning before work #GGS #kimberlysnyder #detox

1. How do you like to live an active life?
Being active for me keeps me happy! So planning out my week so that training comes first before any other commitments ensures that my endorphins are flowing. That way when a friend asks you to brunch or dinner you can work around your exercise or invite them along to the workout with you.

2. What has Vie Active taught you about living an active life?
Vie Active has taught me that to have a balance between healthy living and a glass of wine and that it's ok to listen to your body and have rest days.

3. What is your favourite Vie Active piece?
I can't go past the Tanya Dance Short in black leopard. Whether it's dance class, running or going down the street these perfectly cut short work for every active outfit.

4. Can you share a typical workout?
I love walking/running the Bondi to Bronte walk using 1 minute intervals on my phone. Sprint for a minute then walk for a minute. You will surely get your sweat on!

5. Tell us one unknown fact about yourself
Climbing Macchu Picchu was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Hiking for 8 hours a day with altitudes of 1400+ sea level was super challenging but so rewarding. I definitely recommend planning it in your next overseas trip.

1. How do you like to live an active life?
I'm a high intensity kind of girl, so my active life involves high energy HIIT workouts, I'm a big fan of ZUU and XT plus anything Agoga can throw at me. I also love to give anything active a go...at the moment I'm mastering stand up paddleboarding. During the week I'm an avid raw cook and am always bringing healthy treats into the office and on the weekends I always make sure I hit up the Bondi and Everleigh Farmer's markets for fresh flowers and Quinoa brownies....plus an artistic shot or two for instagram.

2. What has Vie Active taught you about living an active life?
Working at Vie Active has fueled my passion for all things health and fitness and my willingness to give anything a go....our Birthday party is at SkyZone for a trampoline workout, which I cannot wait to try. Yet, I've also learn't a lot about the importance of balance of taking time to let your body rest, to try and incorporate some calming yoga or Pilates alongside my HIIT routines. Everyone in the office has a different approach to living an active life and it has been really interesting to learn from everyone and incorporate some of their ideas into my own routine.

3. What is your favourite Vie Active piece?
The Lori Sports Bra (at the moment I'm obsessed with Snow Leopard), it is so easy to take on and off that can't wear any other sports bras anymore. Plus I don't have to change into a bikini if I want to go for a run and then a paddleboard or swim.

4. There are always healthy treats in the office, do you have a favourite healthy recipe you can share?

I am slightly obsessed with raw treats and recreating my favourite treats with a healthy twist. I'm a big fan of chocolate and my mum is a big fan of macadamias, so my Raw Choc Macadamia slice is always on high rotation at home or around the office.

Raw Choc Macadamia Slice
Ingredients
15 Medjool dates
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
1 cup of macadamia nuts
1 tablespoon of cacao powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
A pinch of Himalayan sea salt
Method
1. To begin place the macadamia nuts on a baking tray in the oven at 180C, toast for 5-10 minutes or until golden brown (turn to get an even colour all over).
2. Leave Macadamia nuts to cool.
3. Place dates, salt, cacao, vanilla and coconut oil in food processor and process until smooth mixture forms.
4. Take the date mixture and mix in the macadamia nuts.
5. Place in a slice tin lined in baking paper, smoothly the mixture out with a spatula to get an even spread.
6. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes to set.
7. Once set cut into squares and keep in the fridge.
Enjoy!
Variations
This mix can be made with any type of nuts or even other super foods such as goji or golden berries.
5. Tell us one unknown fact about yourself
Whenever I'm feeling sluggish or need a bit of an energy pick me up I have a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of peppermint tea.

Teresa Dow
Role: Sales and Customer Care Adviser. I manage everything from processing orders, to fulfilling them, handling exchanges and refunds, managing facebook and its content and basically making sure all our customers are happy!
1. How do you live an active life?
I am always busy, it can sometimes be hard to find the time to fit in a workout, so I try and keep active in other ways. Most mornings, when it's not bitterly cold, I'll get up super early and go for a run before work, and on the weekend I like to mix it up, by going somewhere I’ve never been before for a hike, or trying out a new workout.

2. What has Vie Active taught you about an active life?
That it doesn't have to be a chore. That being active is easy, and can actually be really fun too! There's so many different ways to keep active, and you can look great doing it too!

3.  What is your favourite Vie Active piece?
Maya Scoop Tank: Such a practical tank for working out, and lounging around in. It breathes so well during even the hardest workout, and when it's cooler, I like to layer it for extra warmth. The length is perfect and my little i-pod fits neatly into the back pocket for those longer runs.

4. Who is your biggest fitness inspiration?
My biggest fitness inspiration is my sister. Whenever I speak to her, she's either on her way to the gym, or coming back from it. She's always persistent, determined to get the results she wants, and looks fabulous! If only we lived in the same state we might be able to train together!

5. Tell us one unknown fact about yourself
I hiked Macchu Picchu this time last year. The altitude almost killed me, but i made it, and it was one of the most amazing things I've done in my life!

1. How do you live an active life?
The easiest way for me to stay active is to workout with a partner. Depending on what type of workout I want to do will depend on which friend or family member I drag along with me. Working out with a partner keeps me motivated, accountable and makes the time pass much quicker!

2. What has Vie Active taught you about an active life?
That there is more to fitness than running on a treadmill or pumping weights at the gym. Vie Active has allowed me to experience different types of workouts that work my body in different ways.

3.  What is your favourite Vie Active piece?
I prefer a cropped length tight for yoga so the Vibeke fit is perfect for getting into those bendy positions.

4. Who is your biggest fitness inspiration?
My biggest fitness inspiration is my grandmother. After a double heart bypass she completely changed her lifestyle to include fitness and healthier meal choices. She is testament that it is never too late to make positive lifestyle changes that lead to an active life.

5. Tell us one unknown fact about yourself
I am a total tomboy- I ride motorbikes and drive a ute. Surprisingly motorcross can be a decent workout for your core and thighs as you really need to engage them to stabilise yourself.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know the names and faces behind the Vie Active team and that we are able to inspire you as much as our customers inspire us! To learn more about Vie Active read our blog post behind Noa and Bryan's inspiration and visions for the future here
