If you’ve never visited Sun Valley, Idaho USA, add it to your list. A ski-town in winter and a world class mountain bike, hiking and trail running destination in summer, it’s a vie activist’s mecca (and on our bucket list of places to move to!) Susan Robinson is a Sun Valley local and Vie Activist who defines what it means to live an active life. Currently volunteering with Higher Ground Adaptive Sports by participating in their recreational therapy camps and activities for veterans (www.highergroundsv.org), Susan studied health & physical science in college and became a certified trainer in 2001.  A life-long participator in sports (team sports as well alpine skiing, running and cycling) Susan has also been racing bikes (road & mountain) for more than 10 years. We chat with Susan about what inspires and motivates her to stay fit and healthy.

How do you live an active life, what’s your favourite way to stay fit?

I work out in some form almost everyday whether it’s alpine skiing in the morning and yoga in the afternoon or a 4 hour mtn. bike ride or hike to a high alpine lake.  I like to change it up to keep it interesting & fun.

What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend?

Summer:  long bike ride with friends.  Winter: Alpine ski in the morning and a nice nordic ski in the afternoon

What’s your style like when you’re not working out?

I suppose I would describe my style as cute and trendy

Favourite healthy dish to cook?

I call it a “Meat Salad”, mostly so my husband will eat it!  Lot’s of seasonal greens mixed with fruit, seeds or nuts, goat cheese and grilled meat with a light dressing. It’s never the same recipe since I make it up as I go along.

How do you find balance?

I try to do something that makes me happy every day whether it’s exercise, reading or catching up with a friend I haven’t seen for awhile.

What does living an active life mean to you?

For me it means being healthy in order to be able to do and enjoy the activities I love for the rest of my life.
